Trees and Other Ramifications
The Spencer Museum of Art put together a thought-provoking collection of fine art related to trees. The exhibition layout allowed patrons to make connections between seemingly disparate ideas. The way that humanity can suffocate nature and the way that nature destroys some of the most impressive human accomplishments. The ways that the branching structure of a knotty pine resembles neural pathways and the way that the branching of an optic nerve resembles that of a sapling.
Strange Flock created a kinetic identity to walk the viewer through these connections. The exhibition brochure connects works in unexpected ways to continue the dialogue that the curators had already begun. The invitation allows the recipient to put these pieces together through paper folding and is enclosed in a unique envelope that beckons the guest to see what is inside.
